Editorial illustrations can appear in various media: magazines, newspapers, corporate publishing formats, or online media. Sometimes my task as an illustrator is to create a single image, other times a multi-page spread and, of course, the most fun is to illustrate an entire publication.
In my editorial illustrations, I focus on humor and lightness, using clear lines, bright colors, and friendly characters. It's important to me to avoid cultural and gender stereotypes.
My illustrations aren't purely decorative — I bring my own artistic perspective, adding new aspect to the text. I use whimsical details to keep the audience engaged and encourage them to delve deeper into the topic. Ideally, illustration and text form a harmonious symbiosis that makes the content vibrant and accessible.
Clients:
I have worked with the editorial teams of many magazines worldwide like Monocle, Dwell Magazine, The Atlantic, Bloomber business Week, Personal Magazin, DB mobil, Zeit Magazin, Immobilienwirtschaft, Focus, etc.
My Process – no AI:
The creation of an illustrated info graphics includes lots of research, reflection, asking questions, testing, scribbling, discussing, drawing, refining paths, perfecting details, finalizing.
Sometimes ideas come easy, sometimes they leave me hanging. Sometimes a new idea pops up when I least expect it. That's the human powered process.
I collaborate with my clients, and we discuss ideas on the phone, by email or on a video-call. But always from human to human. Because that's what it is about.
